Construction paper

Markers/Crayons/Pencil Colors/Pencil

Scissors

Tape/glue

Lunch straw

TIME

Under 1 hour

PROCEDURE

Instruct students to

Fold construction paper in half to form a 9" by 6" rectangle.

Cut along the fold line.

Give one half to a classmate.

Fold the construction paper in half lengthwise to form a 3” by 9” strip.

Draw the shape of a canoe type boat along the fold line.

Cut out shape but not along the fold line.

Coat each side with wax crayon to make the paper partially waterproof.

Seal open ends with tape.

Cut 2 strips ½" wide and long enough (about 1”) to allow for glue tabs on each end for the seats.

Glue inside the boat to add seats.

Cut a straw length approximately 3”long to form the mast.

Cut and glue an arrow shape with approximately 1” sides to straw.

Attach to bottom of boat with tape.
