Egg Carton Planter
Materials

Foam egg cartons
-
Potting soil
-
Dwarf flower or vegetable seeds

Water
-
Plastic Wrap
-
Twine/Yarn
Time
Under 1 hour
Procedure
Instruct students to:
-
Cut the egg carton in half. Save the top of the carton for a drain pan.

Cut cup section into 6 – 2 or 3 - 4 piece sections and share with classmate.

Push a pencil hole in the bottom of each egg cup so the water will be able to drain.

Push a small pencil hole in the topsides of the egg carton to thread length through.

Fill each cup ½ full with potting soil.
-
Drop a few seed into each cup.
-
Fill the cups full with potting soil.
-
Place the egg carton sections on the egg carton top

Pour a little water into each egg cup.
-
Cover the egg carton with plastic wrap.
-
Poke a few holes in the plastic wrap so air can get in.
-
Place the egg carton tray in a sunny location.
-
When the seeds begin to sprout remove the plastic wrap.
-
Water as needed and keep the tray in your sunny spot until time to take home.

Attach length.
-
Encourage students to replant when they get home with it.
