Handprint Butterfly

Materials
  • Construction paper
  • Markers/Crayons/Pencil Colors/Pencil
  • Scissors
  • Glue/ tape/stapler
  • Wire bag twist/pipe cleaner
  • 12 inch length of string for each student
  • Hole Punch

Time

1 hour

Procedure

Instruct students to:

  1. Trace hands on construction paper 6x to form butterfly wings.
  2. Cut out the tracings.
  3. Draw a butterfly’s body by tracing the bottom of 1 sneaker on a piece of dark construction paper,
  4. Cut out the tracing.
  5. Attach the hand print tracings to the body, three on each side with the fingers pointing outward.
  6. Curl the ends of wire bag twist/pipe cleaner into balls to form the butterfly’s antennae.
  7. Attach to the backside of the butterfly’s head.
  8. Draw eyes on the butterfly’s head.
  9. Decorate the wings with crayons or markers.
  10. Attach length to hang.
