Procedure

Instruct students to:

1. Fold and cut construction paper in half to form a 2 - 6” by 9” rectangles.
2. Share 1 with classmate.
3. Draw the shape of a bird's body on white construction paper.
4. Cut out the bird’s body.
5. Cut two slits in the body (along the dotted lines).
6. Cut Xerox paper in half.
7. Fold each piece like an accordion.
8. Insert the folded paper into the slits to form the tail feathers and wings.
9. Attach in slits with glue.
10. Glue ends of tail feathers to make a fan shape.
11. Add facial features.
12. Attach length and hang.

Tip

Cut the edges of the folded paper for a lacy effect.
