Spring Crafts

Pinwheel

Materials
  • ¼ sheet of construction paper
  • Markers/Crayons/Pencil Colors/Pencil
  • Ruler
  • Scissors
  • Push tack
  • Pencil with eraser
  • Dime

Time

Under 1 hour

Procedure

Instruct students to:

  1. Mark and cut a 4 ½ " square from construction paper.
  2. Center dime in the middle of the square and trace around it.
  3. Cut diagonally from each corner towards the opposite corner. (4 x)
  4. Stop cutting when you reach the mark you made from the dime.
  5. From the back, push the pin through the center of the pinwheel.
  6. Take the right corner of the first section and bend to the middle of the pinwheel and push over the needle to hold.
  7. Repeat with each section.
  8. Remove from needle, carefully holding the sections together.
  9. Push the pin through the front of the pinwheel completely through the back.
  10. Push the pinwheel into the eraser of the pencil.
  11. Let the pinwheel loosen up between the corners and the back.
  12. Blow on the pinwheel and watch it spin
